The luckiest among us can wax eloquent about our mothers. Those who, like me, had a mother so awesome that we got tricked into doing the motherhood thing ourselves. I mean, they made it look easy.
Shout out to my own glorious mother, pictured here with my niece, whose abiding love was the foundation of a happy childhood - no matter where we went, or who was there when we got there.
She kept three active girls in clean and pressed (often homemade) clothes and naturally styled Black girl hair, and armed with strong self esteem. She sewed our slip covers and drapes, cooked only from scratch, and taught us to read before kindergarten.
And her joyous laugh tinkled all throughout the house most days. Thank God/dess for you mom.
With love and gratitude,
Happy Mother's Day!
